Waterproof Waxed Canvas Lunchbag

Let's think about how many paper and plastic bags have lost their lives to a spilled lunch. Tossed in the bin rather than reused, filled with salad dressing or some other fancy sandwich detritus. As a matter of fact, let's not.

The point is, with a lunchbag that not only keeps lunch from rolling around, but can be easily wiped down when something spills, flimsy bags no longer need to be in your life. Durable waxed cotton canvas can be used again and again. It keeps water out, easily cleans on the inside, and looks good and grown up. (For the record, we miss those Hardy Boys' lunch pails, too. But you have to admit this works better.)

The leather strap on this bag is oil-tanned and locally sourced, attached to the canvas bag with rivets, which beats glue or cheap thread that eventually wears out and falls off. Constructed by a seamstress who has worked with fabrics for going on 30 years, and has a fondness for materials that will outlast their owners and wearers. 

A large, beautiful sack, holds sandwiches and apples for a small group, or a large lunch for a hungry camper. Also serves as a dopp kit or supply case for small items. Top stitching lets the bag stand upright when you unravel it, and the top rolls down again for buckling when you're ready to pack up.

To clean the bag, just wipe it down with a damp cloth.

These bags are handmade in West Asheville, NC by a seamstress and leatherworker who has worked with fabrics for going on 30 years. She has a background in fine arts and experience sewing and designing costumes and apparel, mask-making, bookmaking and teaching classes out of her studio on sewing and mixed media. 

All materials used for the bags are hand-picked to be the best quality and the most attractive available.  The canvas is 8 1/2 ounce weight, the leather straps are cut by hand and the brass-plated nickel buckles are hammered on to endure multiple uses over time.  The edges of the bag are stitched with strong cotton thread to form a foundation so the bag can stand upright.
