Commonstudio’s seed bombs can be used to bring life to disused spaces such as sidewalk cracks, vacant lots, and median dividers. The bombs, specially formulated with native species for various growing regions across the US, can also be used in planned gardens to bring wildflowers and grasses to your backyard. Each bomb contains 500 seeds of anywhere from half a dozen to a dozen annuals and perennials.

Working in partnership with a local non-profit organization, Commonstudio offers employment opportunities and a living wage to formerly homeless or economically disadvantaged men and women from the Los Angeles area.

Use & Care

Choose a planting site that is likely to receive an adequate supply of water. Launch, toss, or bury (halfway is fine) the seed bomb into the site. The bomb may break or remain intact and will work in either case. To encourage germination, make sure your seed bomb gets plenty of water to start. Under ideal conditions some of the seeds should germinate and sprout in about a week. (A number of the seeds may never germinate, even under ideal conditions — that being the nature of Nature.)

The hardy grasses and wildflowers that grow from the seed bomb require little maintenance and will tolerate infrequent watering.

Production & Design

The seed bombs are hand-rolled in Culver City, California, using local materials, sustainable packaging, and socially responsible labor.
