Ditch the toxic plastic and breakable glass lunch containers for this two-tier enamelware lunch pail. Made of tough porcelain coated steel, it is simply constructed, easy to clean, and durable. A work-day staple.

Composed of two stacking enamelware containers and a top that doubles as a plate. The enamelware components are held as one by a stainless steel handle, bent and molded to fit tightly. One firm press downward, and the handle pops off easily, so you can enjoy your lunch (or holiday picnic) as quickly as you like.

This product is made in Austria by a company with roots going back to 1550 (around the time the Conquistadors were introducing steel to the New World), but they’ve been specializing in porcelain enamel for the past eighty years. They stamp each piece out steel to exacting specifications. They also strive to produce their enamelware with a minimum of energy waste. They have their own hydroelectric power stations, reuse generated heat three times over, and are working toward fuel oil independence.

Use & Care

Ideal for bringing lunch to work or snacking in the outdoors during a picnic. The porcelain enamel can withstand heat, pressure, and moisture. Just don’t put it in the microwave. If you want to reheat your lunch, just put the pail on the stovetop.

Totally safe in the dishwasher, but just as easy to wash by hand.

Because these containers are built without plastic, use care and keep upright when transporting soups or other liquids that could seep through between the container and lid.

Production & Design

Only natural, abundantly available raw materials are used for enameling. To carry out the high-heat enameling, the Austrian company uses 100 percent renewable power. The pails are made at 1500°C too, so that’s quite a commitment. The company built three of their own hydroelectric power stations that allow them to use only green electricity. This saves 4,600 tons of carbon dioxide and 3.6 tons of sulfur oxide and sulfur dioxide from ever being made and released into our air. The construction of their drying and burning facilities allows them to use and reuse the heat they generate for three different purposes.

Although you’ll never want to throw one of these lunch pails away, it’s nice to know that they’re 100 percent recyclable.
