The search for the perfect coaster ends here, with a piece of thick, colorful, water-resistant material that doesn't scratch the surface of your coffee table. Felt is the world's oldest textile, and its versatility has lent 8,000 years of use in fashion, home design, musical instruments and even car parts.
Felt is basically the matted fibers of sheep, so it has all the virtues of wool — warm, waterproof, resilient, durable — but is denser and more compact. Merino wool, from which the coasters are made, is also prized for its ultra fine fibers which give it a soft feel. A luxe accoutrement to your holiday table, for jovial guests wielding condensation-dappled wine goblets around your beautiful wood furniture.
Each of the coasters is cut from a 5mm die and colored with Oeko-tex dyes, which are quality tested to be free of harmful chemical substances. Part of the utility of these coasters comes from requiring little or no maintenance. If spillage does occur, gently dab moisture off with a dry cloth. The natural oil content of the wool wicks off stains and water.

The product of a German structural engineer and Japanese wood artisan-trained carpenter who produce a line of felt, leather and canvas products in their workshop in Los Angeles. They rediscovered felt for what it is - a traditional, extremely versatile material - and were inspired by its potential, working it into their mix of ideal materials for their line of accessories, which focus on modern lines and structural aesthetics.
The combination of influences from Japanese carpentry in the traditional style of wa daiku, and architectural design, make up the two designers' philosophy of understated luxury meets traditional techniques.
The wool used to make the felt coasters is the best imported from Germany, dyed with Oake-tex quality tested dies, then shaped and cut with a 5 mm die-cutter by their small team of experienced makers.

How It Works
Merino fibers have a complex structure with a hydrophobic exterior (water repelling) and a hydrophilic interior (water holding). This makes the fabric dry to the touch yet moisture-resistant at the same time. It's also odorless and stays that way by being naturally anti-microbial. This means odor doesn't bond to the material because bacteria can't find a solid environment to grow on.
