Made entirely in Japan, the notebook covers are bonded with starched, pressed, water-resistant cotton in four rich, muted colors. The paper is made from boiled natural fibers and formed into thin, smoothly textured pin-graph paper.
This fine texture keeps the pen from slipping too easily and makes it an ideal writing surface to keep thoughts flowing. This paper is pH-neutral, meaning that it will not yellow over time and can last up to 1000 years. The pin-graph paper is ecologically made and chlorine free.
The Postalco notebooks are spiral-bound, for ease when flipping through its pages, then cloth-bound for a clean look. When flipped open the cover extends beyond bottom of the page, a clever design consideration that supports your hand as you keep writing to the bottom of the page.
A5 is the largest of the three sizes at 6.5" by 9". Each notebook is subtly adorned with Postalco’s logo, a carrier pigeon, the speedy, correspondence-oriented birds that were trusted with urgent messges tucked into little leather pouches strapped to their backs.
Simply write down thoughts, doodles or notes. This notebook provides a perfect place to record ideas that spring forth during the day.
The cloth binding make Postalco notebooks good for archiving – catalog these by writing on the pressed cotton fabric and stowing your growing stack in a bookshelf.
Currently based in Tokyo, Postalco originated in Brooklyn, New York.
Husband-and-wife team, Mike and Yuri Abelson — a product designer and a
graphic designer, respectively — began with a love of the international
transport of mail and Japanese craftsmanship. This soon evolved into an
exploration of the beauty of paper, with its smooth texture and
tangible warmth, and their skills and fancies converged seamlessly into
Postalco. Their current store is in the 4th floor of a quiet building
in a low-key Tokyo neighborhood, a location befitting their
understated, clean sense of style.
Mike and Yuri work closely with the craftsmen who make their goods,
discussing every stitch and fold in the construction of their
notebooks, envelopes and wallets, with workers who are just as obsessed
with quality as the designers. Mike insists that a notebook as
meticulously constructed as these can only be made in Japan, and
Postalco designs their products as a reflection of the unmatched
resource of Japanese craftsmanship.
Postalco notebook paper is ecologically made, pH-balanced and chlorine-free. The covers are made of starched, pressed cotton.
