Forget the canned stuff – only a pot of homemade chicken soup can remedy the rainy day blues or cure a case of the sniffles. Stir in these spices for a soup that’s (almost) as good as Mom’s.
Toss a Tukish bay leaf into the pot to impart subtle, floral notes. Just be sure not to serve the leaf – it’s bitter to the bite.
Use the turmeric for a flavor that’s warm, earthy, and pungent (it’s a staple in curry powders).
The Soup Base Spice Blend is your go-to spice. It will give your soup a brilliant complexity.
Use the whole celery seeds as they are, or grind them up if you’d like, for a flavor that’s reminiscent of a slightly more bitter whole vegetable.
The toasted coriander powder will lend a warm nuttiness to your soup (this one’s also a regular in curry powders).
If you need a little kick with fruity, earthy notes, add a dash of crushed Marash chili powder.
Store these with the rest of the spices in your cupboard. Keep away from light and heat, and use within a year for the best flavor.
