After the folding-handle straight razor made it practical for men to shave themselves rather than visit the barber, a shave set became a status symbol. Especially one made of lustrous, high-shine pewter, one of the most valuable metals in the world.

The shaving mug was originally developed at a time when hot water was not very common in households. Now, it's a conservative way to prep for a wet shave and a lather, and look classy meanwhile. This traditional shaving mug or scuttle also doubles as a standard mug, and is handcrafted by an English pewter company renowned for its expertise in metalwork.

Use & Care

Pewter will retain its shiny finish with the minimum of care. It should be washed by hand in hot soapy water and dried with a soft cloth. If it becomes dull, clean with a metal polish prior to washing. For the best results, always polish in straight lines, never in circles.

Production & Design

The manufacturing company that makes this mug was founded in 1949 in Sheffield, England by a skilled pewter craftsman who started out making pieces in his own home and selling them out of his suitcase. 60 years later, his company is well known for hundreds of pewter products that they first spin on a spinning lathe then assemble and polish by hand.

Sheffield, England gained an international reputation for steel production during the 19th century, and before that, in 1769, they revolutionized the manufacturing of pewter products to make them more quality and durable than they had been previously.
