Japanese Ceramic Crackle Glaze Teapot
Stoneware teapot with stainless steel infuser and removable lid for easy cleaning. Crackle glaze finish over white ceramic. Holds 26 ounces (roughly four cups). Made in Japan since 1980. (
This stoneware teapot is manufactured in Gifu Prefecture, a region in Japan that’s considered to be the country’s center for ceramics and known for its long history of pottery making. (Earthenware pieces dating back to around the 7th century were discovered there, as well as early tea ceremony pieces.)
All the teapot molds are handcrafted in the factory. Once molded, the vessels are left to air dry before being bisque fired at 800°C for six hours, during which time the clay becomes a ceramic material.
The craftspeople at the company have more than 25 years experience, drawing on traditional techniques passed down from previous generations, and inspect each piece for any minor flaws. They then apply an even glaze – a more difficult task with teapots due to their size and shape – prior to a final firing. The teapots are looked over one last time to ensure uniform quality. The product passes through the hands of 10 craftspeople before arriving to you.
Use & Care
The stainless steel infuser and removable lid can be completely removed for easy cleaning. Hand wash only. The teapot is not dishwasher safe. A soft sponge is recommended for cleaning since crackle glaze is more delicate than regular ceramic glazes.
Production & Design
The company that makes this stoneware teapot takes its inspiration from a beehive, a place in which dedicated, detail oriented people work together toward a common goal.
