Dovo
was established in 1906 in the city of Solingen, Germany, a world-class
manufacturing city famous for its steel blades and craftsmanship — they
even have a law requiring anyone using the city’s name to pass a long
list of strict quality standards. The company, founded by Mr. Dorp and
Mr. Voos, started out making straight razors; and when nail grooming became a “thing” in the 1960’s, the company added sturdy, stainless steel scissors and clippers to their offerings.
Use
the clippers for when you want a bracing, quick neat cut. Opt for the
scissors when you need to do a little more work. Nail scissors give more
leverage than nail clippers, using your hand instead of just your
fingertips. The scissors’ blades have tiny teeth that help grip the
nail, so the blade won’t slip and give you a sloppy cut.
Gently
push back the cuticles to prevent hangnails, file your freshly cut
nails down with the steel file, and while your at it, pluck out some
unsightly little hairs with the perfectly angled, ridged-grip
tweezers.
The
kit comes in either a violet or black cowhide case that zips shut. Everything has a
little slot to slide into so there’s no getting scratched or banging
around in there. There’s even a little compartment for the cleaning
cloth, which is included.
With
a minimum hardness of 48° HRC, tools like these are
difficult to damage or break as long as they are used properly. However,
if a break does occur, Dovo guarantees its products for life. When
necessary, blade sharpening or repair should be done by a professional.
Clean these with soap and water and dry with a towel. All these tools are made to do their job extremely well and last you a long time with a minimum of fuss.
The scissors, clippers, tweezers, cuticle pushers, and nail file are all hot forged, a process that produces a more malleable metal, a homogenized grain that resists pressure better, and one that reduces chemical incongruities that would otherwise weaken the steel. The leather case is made of cowhide from Europe.
