Drain, rinse, scoop and ladle anything. This set comes with the long-handled colander, the slotted ladle and the soup ladle all in beautiful, white porcelain enamel. Porcelain enamel has the unbreakability of steel and the glossy finish of glass, plus it's scratch-resistant and can handle all the heat you put it through and still stay looking innocent, new and clean.
The slotted ladle scoops out poaching salmon, boiling eggs or single servings of pasta — anything that needs to be fished out of hot water or oil.
The colander has a long handle to keep your hands far from the waterfall of boiling pasta water, and is charming enough to serve a pint of freshly washed cherries out of.
The porcelain enamel ladle is heat resistant, so even if you leave it in your soup, it won't melt, and won't leech out dangerous chemicals (like the BPA in plastic). Or use it to serve punch — these kitchen tools all plenty good-looking so you can use them to serve out your food table-side.
The company that makes these containers has been specializing in porcelain enamel for over 80 years, but started in 1550 (that’s 461 years ago, if you don’t have a calculator handy) as a pan-making firm. Despite being very old, the company strives to produce their enamelware with a minimum of energy waste. They have their own hydroelectric power stations, reuse generated heat three times over, and are working toward fuel oil-independence.
The smooth white finish — like a perfect puddle of milk — stays looking new and unblemished for decades.
All of these are safe to put in the dishwasher, for those of you lucky enough to have one. But the smooth surface means they're also easy to clean by hand.
These are unbreakable, within reason. If you beat it long enough and hard enough against a stone floor, the enamel might eventually chip.
Only natural, abundantly available raw materials are used for enameling this lunch container.
To carry out the high-heat enameling of their products, the company constructed three of their own hydroelectric power stations that allow them to use 100% green electricity. This saves 4,600 tons of carbon dioxide and 3.6 tons of sulfur oxide and sulfur dioxide from ever being made and released into our air. The construction of their drying and burning facilities allows them to use and reuse the heat they generate for three different purposes. They’re excited about residual heat and are working towards the day when they are completely independent from fuel oil.
You'll never want (or need) to throw these out, but just so you know, they are 100% recyclable.
