Retain the form and balance of your shoe's original construction and make your footwear last the way it was meant to. Unvarnished cedar will remove any moisture from sweat, rain, sleet and snow, and minimize the creases and cracks of leather which allows the shoes to accept polish and maintain their original luster. The natural aroma of cedar deodorizes shoes.

Use & Care

After you get home, slip off your shoes and slip in a pair of the cedar trees. The optimal time for using them is that first hour after wear, when they'll soak up the most moisture and give shape to your shoe, preventing uneven wear and improper traction from the turns and twists you make in your everyday route.

Note: If you come home with soaking-wet shoes, stuff them with newspaper first. Before they're entirely dry, insert the shoe trees to make sure they dry out evenly and maintain their original shape.

Occasionally, you can gently rub 120 grain sandpaper over the cedar to revive its aroma and deodorizing properties.

Production & Design

The company that makes these cedar shoe trees used to manufacture shoe lasts, before shoe lasts were outsourced to China and made of plastic.

Established in New England in 1922, when New Hampshire and Vermont were prime regions for shoe manufacturing and leather tanning, this company discovered red cedar and developed the first shoe tree, which became their number one product.

The shoe trees are turned from the scrap wood of Eastern aromatic red cedar, a tree indigenous to the Northeast region. The wood is then kiln dried to a furniture grade to prevent breakage and cracking. The kiln drying process begins with the lumber which is stacked with air, then placed into an oversized oven and sealed by steam. The fire for the process is fueled by the sawdust byproduct from logs that were previously cut in the plant. The plant keeps an elaborate sawdust collection that is used for each kiln drying.

The cedar is then cut by hand (with the help of a wood machine), and the toes and heels are shaped on shapers before the hardware is attached and the trees are hand-finished with a gentle sanding and individual check for knots.
