Duluth Pack Canvas Tote Bag (Black)

Made from sturdy 15 ounce black canvas. Duluth Pack, born in the rough-and-tumble Northwoods frontier, has been making canvas and leather goods since 1882, honing their skills not just with tough packs, but wagon covers, blacksmith aprons, tents and cots. Packs made by the company have lasted their entire 128-year history.

While the tote bag is made with materials expected to carry a cord of firewood, or last through a fortnight of wintery hikes, it is just as suitable for a bushel of leeks from the market or lugging your laptop to work everyday. The canvas softens with age, and the belted leather handles look best timeworn. Interior snap buttons on opposite sides reduces the size and shape of the tote for when you’re carrying a little less. An 8 x 8 zippered interior pocket keeps your keys from floating around the bottom of the bag. And just for Kaufmann Mercantile, the leather moosehead logo is discreetly sewn onto the inside pocket for a cleaner look.

The tote bag is available in black canvas and black leather with nickel buckles and olive green with brown leather and brass buckles.

Duluth packs have been made entirely by hand in the same factory since 1911 by a team of artisan cutters, sewers and riveters. Each piece of canvas is inspected for flaws before being hand-cut. The canvas is then assembled by sewers who sign each bag they make. Rivets are hand-pounded or placed using a 100-year-old riveting machine. The bags are checked at each stage by the specialized craftsman, then re-inspected by quality control before shipping.

The tote bag is made with components that have withstood the test of time – bags made with these materials have lasted 128 years and counting. The leather and hardware are sourced from the Midwest, rivets are made in Duluth. The canvas is dyed in North Carolina and, depending on the distributor, is sourced either from within the state or from India.
