When you do something every day, you might as well enjoy it. And with the “R” seasons, cold weather and their subsequent food-centric holidays, an attractive, sturdy, versatile set of bowls is as necessary as a dozen or so bottles of wine.
Stoneware, different than Earthenware, is a sturdier, chip resistant material that moves seamlessly from the oven to the table to the dishwasher. It also has the look of handmade pottery with a texture to it and a density that feels good and heavy. Stoneware bowls can be used for cooking, baking, as serving dishes and in the garden.
The stoneware bowl is a water tight, textured piece of pottery that is oven, microwave and dishwasher safe. You can also clean it by traditional methods, with soap and water, or a dry wipe.
A 50 year old pottery business forms these bowls on a forming press in a metal mold. They are then hand finished, dried and glazed. All glazes are made on site and are made of recipes unique to the company. All pieces are fired at 2000 degrees Fahrenheit in a process that takes about twelve hours from the time of lighting the kiln to the time the kiln is opened.
