The major difference between a finely-made wooden comb and any other type of grooming device is measured by the ease with which the comb slides through the hair. Wood's natural texture and the precision-cut teeth defy the motto "Pain is beauty." No, it's not. Or at least, not now.
But since the advent of plastics, wooden comb-making has become all but obsolete in the United States. This comb came to us from Germany, from one of the last comb-making family businesses left. They have been doing it for four generations, using a comb teeth cutting machine from England that cuts combs out of smooth, locally harvested hornbeam wood.
Another excellent thing about a wooden comb versus plastic is that wood does not conduct, so static electricity can be eliminated from the grooming routine altogether, as well as any painful or sharp experiences with comb teeth on the scalp. Vital oils are also not stripped from the hair by the use of a wooden-toothed comb. The ends of these wood teeth are blunt and slightly curved, and massage the scalp for a therapeutic groom.
It isn't necessary to clean the comb, which is perfectly happy with the natural oils from the hair. But if you feel the need to clean it, use a little bit of soap and water. Be sure not to leave the comb submerged in water for too long.
The wood for this comb is cut with a 120 year old combmaker machine from England, by a fourth generation comb maker family in Germany. The teeth of the combs are precise and smooth, cleaned mechanically to remove wood fibers. There is no wax or oil to finish the comb, so the wood is as natural as possible which is best for the hair.
The teeth of this comb are made of hornbeam wood with fibers going in one direction. At the top of the comb, the wood fibers go in the opposite direction to make the handle very sturdy.
