Postalco pen and tool cases are made from starched, pressed water-resistant cotton and cross grain leather in three rich, two-toned colors. The box folds open at the center for two 1-inch deep compartments.

The pen and tool case's pressed cotton is ecologically made from boiled natural fibers The leather develops a bit of character the more you open and close the case, over time becoming unique to its owner. On the outer fold, the toolbox is subtly adorned with Postalco’s logo, a carrier pigeon.

The cases come in black, olive green, and brick red. The difference in texture and ink depth between the pressed cotton and the leather give the boxes a subtle, two-toned look.

They are 8.25” long, 3.3” high, and a little over an inch deep, with room for over stuffing a bit, due to the pliability of the pressed cotton compartments.

Use & Care

When snapped open, two rather roomy pockets face you. The case can hold scissors, measuring tape, pens and pencils, erasers, a compass, or anything else that might be handy on the average day.

Postalco uses naturally cured and tanned cross-grain leather. Like all leather, avoid getting it wet. If it happens, immediately pat the case dry with a soft cloth to avoid staining and rippling. To keep the leather supple and nourished, rub in a protective leather conditioner when you first get it, and again once or twice a year. Leather conditioner and a soft cloth can also be used to wipe off surface dirt.

The pressed cotton fabric is made with the same machines that made the sturdy old canvas tents of yesteryear, so you know it will last through a thousands of openings and closings. The fabric has a light water resistant coating – enough to protect but not too much to cover up the natural feel of the fabric. If the fabric gets wet, pat with a soft cloth and let it air dry. Don't rub at the cotton aggressively, this can remove the dye and cause undue fading and light spots.

The natural dyes on the fabric will soften and lighten with age.

Production & Design

Currently based out of Tokyo, Postalco originated in Brooklyn, New York. Husband-and-wife team, Mike and Yuri Abelson – a product designer and a graphic designer, respectively – began with a love of international mail transport and Japanese craftsmanship. This soon evolved into an exploration of the beauty of paper, with its smooth texture and tangible warmth; Postalco was founded. Their current store is in the 4th floor of a quiet building in Tokyo, a location befitting of their understated, clean sense of style.

Mike and Yuri work closely with the craftsmen who make their goods, discussing every stitch and fold in the construction of their notebooks, containers and wallets. Postalco workers who are just as obsessed with quality as the designers. Mike insists that a toolbox as meticulously constructed as these can only be made in Japan, and Postalco designs their products as a reflection of the unmatched resource of Japanese craftsmanship.
