Maker Craig Bertoldi is a former sail maker who has been sewing bags and materials for himself and his wife for 20 years. His creations were inspired out of the frustration of owning bags that constantly fell apart and would not hold up to travel and frequent use.

All bags have zippers and double-stitched edges with very heavy polyester thread. Aside from materials, each bag is measured the whole way through production with squares and calipers, to ensure measurements are consistent.

The canvas of the bag gets better with time, changing its patina as you use it, and developing a character as it gets crunched and banged around.

Use & Care

Use this bag for travel, to store office supplies and other small items, or as a waterproofing case for your wallet on a rainy bike ride.

By its nature, waxed canvas is water repellent. It was developed for the sailing industry to create waterproof fabric for nautical equipment.

The only advice from the manufacturer is not to throw it in a washing machine. Apply a damp cloth to anything spilled on it. If you stain it with a liquid, the stain should wick right off.

Production & Design

The story begins with a man who put himself through college by working for a sail loft, where he was first introduced to the beefy canvas materials used for sail boats and nautical wear, the same fabrics he now uses for his bags. Since working for the loft he kept his interest in sewing and started making things as a stress reliever. He created packs and bags for himself and family, and when he posted his work on the internet he didn't think of the work as a money generating project. But the heavy-duty bags took off, and he now spends considerable time working on their production.

Craig sources his materials locally and from within the U.S. whenever possible. His YKK zippers are sourced out of New York. His canvas comes from Fairfield Textiles in New Jersey. He focuses on materials that are simple and basic that will withstand the test of time.
