Flythrough Copper Bird Feeder
Solid 16-ounce copper bird feeder. Pitched roof and watertight tray to hold various types of seeds. Comes with copper wire hanger. Holds 1.33 quarts (1.25 liters) or 2 pounds (1 kilogram) of bird feed. Made in the Blue Ridge Mountains. (
This bird feeder is handmade from solid 16-ounce, unfinished copper. The pitched roof adds height to accommodate small to medium sized birds, from chickadees and sparrows to pheasants and quails. The bottom tray holds various types of feed, so you can customize the mix to attract your favorite blue jay or songbird.
Use & Care
Place the bird feeder on a pole or post about 4 or 5 feet off the ground. Comes with a copper wire hanger, so it may also be hung from a tree.
The tray is suited for holding feed including cracked corn, fruit, mixed seed, peanut chunks, peanuts in shell, safflower seeds, sunflower kernels and sunflower seed.
Depending on the area that you live in and the type of feed you use, your bird feeder may attract blackbirds, bluebirds, cardinals, chickadees, crows, doves, finches, jays, mockingbirds, orioles, pheasants, quails, robins, sparrows, woodpeckers and more.
Copper does not rust, but will build up a unique patina over time. If desired, you may polish your copper with equal parts kosher salt and ketchup to return it to its original sheen. To learn more about caring for copper, read our “References” article here: Care for Copper.
Production & Design
Husband-wife team Vasse and Peg Vaught began their copper roofing business in 1999, armed with combined experience in copper apprenticeships and architectural training programs in the U.S. and in Europe. Seeking a useful purpose for their leftover copper scraps, the couple began to make bird feeders in 2000. The gleaming copper bird feeders in architectural shapes were so popular that they have now expanded their line to include other garden and household products such as bird baths, nesting trays, flower pots, umbrella cans and more.
