Stainless Steel Potato Ricer
Don't be confused: this beautiful specimen makes a mean mashed potato. Crafted by a group of twelve northern Italian craftsmen using stainless steel and a hundred-year-old design. (
Back in the day, no kitchen was complete without the potato ricer. Stella's signature design transformed mashed potatoes from a chunky gruel to a fluffy cloud of potato heaven. To this day, the potato ricer does not disappoint, crushing potatoes faster and better than the best Casanova of a masher.
Features two interchangeable screens that can be removed, this ricer is easy to clean. The presser foot is also perfectly flushed to the screen, so no residue or dried bits are left behind. Even the handle is specially shaped to add strength while increasing hand comfort — especially useful for those weak moments during Thanksgiving when five bowls of mashed 'taters just isn't enough. Italians in the Emilia Romagna region traditionally use this device to make passatelli, a pasta made from Parmesan cheese, bread crumbs, and egg. Are you hungry yet? We are.
Use & Care
The potato ricer easily comes apart for cleaning and switching filters. The fine filter is for potatoes, and the large size is for passatelli. Also great for making play-doh noodles. Seriously!
For cleaning, wash with soap and water. Lifetime warranty. Boom.
Production & Design
Stella got its start in 1924 when Italy was in the middle of an economic downturn. Gino Sgarbi and his buisiness parter Girolamo Chiozzi made a name for themselves by producing quality wares during a time when widespread political strife compromised production standards across Europe. Gino Sgarbi passed on what was lovingly called "the factory" to his son Abdon, who after working for eighty years, passed it on to his daughter Marina. To guarantee quality, Marina doesn't make strict production deadlines, ensuring that no piece is leaves the factory without all the attention it deserves.
The factory is in the same region that produces pedigreed Parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar, and lambrusco. Accordingly, each piece in Stella's line marked with quality. Constructed of stainless steel and nothing else, each piece is stamped from plate steel by a crew of twelve craftsmen who possess the know-how to make every Stella product from start to finish. The same people who fabricate the products, also have a hand in product design, where a tradition of quality control consists of impassioned arguments over this or that being moved half a centimeter one way or the other. The Italians... gotta love 'em.
