Buckthorn Wood Slingshot
Practice your aim in the wild, launch a few clay seed bombs into a barren urban lot, or let your friends know you're downstairs with the help of a few pebbles. This wood slingshot lets you relive those days when all you had to do was stay out of trouble... Fits nicely in a back pocket.
The branches from reclaimed buckthorn trees are used to create the slingshot. Buckthorn came from Europe to Minnesota in the 1800s. The wood is now considered an invasive species and was declared a restricted noxious weed by the state’s Department of Natural Resources. Removal is an important job undertaken by local community service groups, who cut down the trees to stumps and paint them to prevent regrowth.
Use & Care
Great for launching seed bombs. Avoid extended exposure to the sun, as this will cause the natural latex tubing to degrade.
Production & Design
Bill Pine started his company, The Original Tree Swing, in September 2009, and launched the eponymous first product from his garage. He continues to make most of the products himself, with some help from family. Pine strives to minimize the environmental impact of his company, making all his toys from reclaimed wood and natural and non-toxic materials.
