Double-sided pewter jigger, measures half an ounce on one side, one and a half ounces on the other. Has scribed lines inside marking 1/2, to 1 1/2 oz. measurements. Ensure accurate pours with your finest liquor. Handmade in northern Italy. Ships free. (
Cut no corners. Measure accurately. Chill properly. Correct the sorry state of affairs in the world of mixology and take seriously one of life's most enjoyable frivolities: mixing a good cocktail.
One side of this jigger measures half an ounce, the other one and a half (with scribed markings inside to let you know how much you've poured.) Just counting works too, of course. But with your finest liquor it's better to get it just right. More drinks are spoiled from being too strong than too weak.
This useful tool has been hand cast in northern Italy, by a pewter guild of skilled Lombardian craftsmen. Their touchmark appears stamped into the jigger, along with a stamp of "95" meaning a 95% content of tin, which by official standards indicates a high quality pewter. The modern pewter used to cast this jigger is slow to oxidize, and though it will develop a slightly darker mark wherever liquor or acids are left in it overnight, the surface patina will remain lustrous and shiny with regular polishing and proper care. Without polish, it will develop a soft grey surface color, which adds character to the material.
Pewter tarnishes very slowly and requires almost no maintenance. Should you want to polish your pewter, almost any metal polish will do.
To clean your jigger after using it, hand wash in warm water using a liquid dish soap. Dry completely. If water is allowed to dry on your pewter, it may cause spots which can easily be removed by using metal polish, or believe it or not, gently rubbing the area in small circular motions with “0000†steel wool.
David Reiss is an American designer who brought this glass, and a number of other Italian crystal and pewter products, to the U.S. He fell in love with the old soul of pewter on a trip to Lombardia, and felt the pewter and crystal products he observed abroad were exceptional in quality and aesthetic, different from what was then available in the United States.
His 17 year old company was the first to bring this very same Italian pewter to the American market. Every one of his products is handmade in Lombardia, FDA approved, food safe and contains no lead.
